Then: implies a sequence. It may be a sequence in time. Mine the diamonds THEN send them for valuation. Or it may be a sequence in location. Red, THEN orange, THEN yellow, as in rainbow.
Than: implies a comparison. Childiak has a higher per tonne valuation THAN Snap Lake. It is preferable to have more diamond in less rock THAN it is to have less diamonds in more rock.
Then and than are not the same word. Then and than are not interchangeable.

I was asked if English was my second language. My observation is that people with English as the second language pay more attention to grammar than the ones with English as the mother tongue ( than then, were we're, so on).

read this without paying too much attention. Basically just glance at it and read as fast as you can, then read it paying more attention.
