Question for XDeBeers

On the latest PDAC presentation -- PDAC Presentation

On page 16.
Right side,
it shows the layout of the different domains within CH-7.

At the top of the image, it mentioned 'Precursor Dyke'.

What does that mean? Precursor?
Can you infer what they mean in reference to the image?

TIA.

Are pipes not fairly uniform in their diamond distibution? If so, what could explain the differences  in CH-7's kim's 1 through 5? Is this different pipes coming together at surface? Does kim 5 continue down to the north east?

Most pipes, but not all, are variable in their diamond distribution. There are quite a few different rock types (facies) within a kimberlite. Tuffaceous (=crater facies), Hyperbyssal (~fresh) are the main types, and there are a few others. There can also be different phases = pulses of magma that have different diamond content. The cooling rate of each rock type is important. The faster the better ...more

The precursor dike can be one of three things in the absence of more information. 1. the root zone of the kimberlite. That is a kimberlite dike from which the pipe erupted upward. 2. A kimberlite dike that is closer in age to the pipe. ie it erupted around the same time and reached the surface. 3. A non-kimberlite dike that was a weaknesss that the kimberlite exploited to get to the surface. We ...more
