Re.PhD in Genetics----Wormguy.
I am a diabetic and any news re. insulin costs grabs my attention.
Qestion to you, can this method of developing Insulin in seeds, also be adapted to producing a vacine for the H1N1 virus. As it stands now there is a company on the TSX,MDG using Tobacco plant seeds instead of eggs ( Currently there are not enough eggs available to produce enough doses of H1N1 to vacinate everyone and many people are allergic to Eggs)to fast track a vacine for the coming 2009/2010 Winter flu season. This H1N1 Swine flu outbreak, according to the World Health Org.(WHO) is already defined as a World Wide Pandemic. There is going to be a shortage of Swine Flu vacine this Winter and I would imagine that another company developing a H1N1 vacine would not upset the Apple cart.
Amoung those that are most likely to become sick with Swine Flu and Death a very strong possilbility are.
The Young up to 25 years.
Children under the age of Two the most likely to get sick first.
The Elderly with underlying medical conditions,(Diabetes,Cancer and other adverse conditions affecting the Respiratory system.
It is not my intention to become the bearer of bad news as most of the the above info is already available.
My point is that we are going to need all the help that we can muster to stop this Pandemic in its tracks and I was just wondering if this company had any plans to switch over to help out against the Swine Flu with there current seed technology.
Thanks.
