as a FYI Mr CEO of shopify finally is putting his own money to use. he bought US$10 million of stock. news came out on May 11 though so I am not concerned about buying more shares Shopify gains as CEO discloses $10 million stock purchase (NYSE:SHOP) | Seeking Alpha

While this may come as asurprise to many people,  over the years I found that insiders buying stock is negative indicator of future performance. As a general rule, I don't follow or base my investment decisions on the actions of insiders.  Early in my  "investment life" I did so and was sorely disappointed with the results. Hello Experienced I do not doubt you had a bad experience from a past insider trade, however, most studies indicate that insider buying is long term positive. Insider sells are less indicative because of the varying reasons for a sale{ house, education, etc.). Not only did Toby purchase 10 mollion but most of his mgt team also purchased stock. The disappointing aspect was how little they owned ...more

Thanks for your reply. I agree that insider sells are totally meaningless. I know that many studies as you mentioned suggest that insider buying is a positive indicator.  That said, I have been investing since 1969 and worked for many years in the brokerage business before I retired about a dozen years ago.  During that time period I have seen countless examples of people buying stock ...more
