Colossus stream probably died today

the only thing Colossal about the company is the value destruction of the share price: down 50% today alone.
They'll probably go the same route as Royal Coal, Nova DX, Terrex , Donner Metals, Thunderbird Energy...
oh my.

This streaming business is a disaster.  I wonder where zentrarian is , when he defended the colossus deal months ago. Giving money upfront to mining companies, depending on other equity financing to keep them afloat, and expecting a portion of the returns is a gamble.        How many times have we seen where right before the stream is supposed to produce, the floor goes ...more

It may be a long long time. <<< If the streaming business is a disaster - then the last thing you want is to keep any money in it waiting for the SP to recover.  If NW is a conman ...more

I don't stress too much  bc my day job is fine, and if the money I invested is gone, so be it.  But I'm frankly angry. I  too bought in to the hoopla of NW, but hes a liar or extremely naive when he said in interviews SME would go to a 50 billion dollar market cap, or justifies shaky deals like Entrees by saying its only 5% of SMEs  MC. This reverse splitting he does ...more

Hi Seven, I agree with some of your views. No doubt that things have not worked out to plan (for a variety of different factors) and it has been just brutal to invest in the company and sector as a whole.  My point was that if the management is as bad - then you may find better use of the money you have and invest it there - better to take a loss and invest in something else that will do ...more

I'm stilll here, sevencities. I'm not going to disappear just because one of Sandstorm's major partners is going through a rough patch, like almost every other company in the precious metals mining sector. I can't respond to your point about "defending the Colosus deal" because I don't know what specific post(s) you are referring to. But certainly if NW and Co. could ...more

If you attribute all these failures on the economy, you're mistaken. What is this, six failures In a row?  Lets not sugar coat this, something is wrong in Denmark. You talk about my DD, really ?          If they had saved any money instead of blowing it away, they couldve used it to pay for the Donner stream. Instead of doing one deal at a time, they blew their ...more

Well, believe it or not, I for one will be sorry to see you go. Contrary opinons backed up by facts are always welcome and useful. What is not useful are juvenile rants or ad hominem attacks on management simply because they made some calls you disagree with. If you bother to look back through record, you will see that I - along with virtually everyone else on the board - have in fact been very ...more

Hey Zentrarian and SevenCities:  I see both your points.  Unfortunately, unlike the vast majority of investors here, I can't afford to lose this money (it could be argued that I probably should not have put some of my kids RESP money on  investment, but what's done is done).  That being said, the two Sandstorms are the only investments I have in the gold/PM and base ...more

gazelle: That's a tough call. I don't know when you will be needing that money for your kid's education, but I think you are right that nothing much is likely to happen with SM&E for the next year or two, especially if CSI continues to run into delays. If you are in danger of losing sleep over any continuing gradual drift downwards, I would question whether it was worth it to hold ...more

Thanks very much for your insight.  My oldest is 10, so he will need the money in 7-8 years.  My youngest ones are 5 and 2, so lot more time there.  I have SND in my RRSP too but I many years from retiring (I am 40 now), so I can withstand the valleys on that one. Problem is, I bought SND between .51 and .57 (preconsolidation)...so I am down something like 65-75% right now.  ...more

Jeremy, I'm not going to weigh in on whether SND is a good investment at this price or not, but there's one thing I do know for sure: the decision you make regarding selling it now or holding on for a rebound should be *independent of your purchase price*. I find this to be the most common mistake investors make.  When making decisions like this, I find that of all things people ...more

that's a very wise reminder, aagold. it is so important to keep the emotions in check and kick out the worst of your positions to add to the best ones. purchasing price is meaningless, although it hurts ones emotions to sell at a 80% loss...
Comment by zentrarianNZ on Nov 25, 2013 2:40am
"it hurts ones emotions to sell at a 80% loss..." Yes, but only because a loss is usually not fully "realized" - in both senses of the word! - until a losing investment is actually sold. If you've already mentally written it off, it's no problem. (FWIW, I've mentally written off my modest investment in SND. It's at the back of my sock drawer until late 2016 ...more
