Syntroleum, a companyengaged in the commercialization of technology to produce syntheticliquid hydrocarbons, has announced that new Dynamic Fuels plant thatwill produce renewable fuels from animal fats and greases ismechanically complete, and work is now underway to prepare for the startof operations.
The prime contractor on the project in Geismar, Louisiana,achieved mechanical completion on July 9, 2010 and turned the entireplant over to Dynamic Fuels, a joint venture of Syntroleum and TysonFoods. Punch list itemswill continue to be addressed by construction and maintenance personnelas the commissioning and start-up of the plant proceed. The firstshipments of animal fats have been delivered to the facility.
The commissioning activities in progress include flushing of alllines, verifying operation of the control system and installation ofcatalysts and absorbents. Dynamic Fuels currently expects to begin fuelproduction and ramp up of production rates, during the third quarter of2010.
The new facility is designed to convert fats, greases and oilssupplied by Tyson Foods into as much as 75 million gallons of renewablefuels per year. Dynamic Fuels has filled the 44 permanent full-timepositions on site and currently maintains 13 full-time start-up supportpersonnel.
