By saying it’s reconsidering the need to show a negative PCR test for COVID-19 at Canadian borders, Ottawa will likely remove the “unfair and unnecessary” requirement, says the Canadian Travel and Tourism Roundtable, a coalition of industry groups.
After sustained pressure, chief public health officer Theresa Tam said last week that test requirements at the border for travellers who are vaccinated against COVID need to be re-examined — indicating that Ottawa might be about to remove the requirement, said Perrin Beatty, president of the Canadian Chamber of Commerce and member of the roundtable.
“I interpret that (to mean) they will be withdrawing or replacing it within the foreseeable future,” Beatty told iPolitics on Wednesday. “The only question is when.”
What we’re hearing is that we’re starting to make some headway with (the government in) pointing out the redundancy of the test in some … instances,” Potter said.
