Pilot deal getting close

From employee webinar:

Ariel: we had a 10 year deal, a lot of good things happened with the 10 year deal it allowed us to grow with the labour stability but of course with the 10 year deal it creates a bit of pent up demand. So it's time to refresh that agreement and that's what we have been doing that's why it's taking a long time...

Because we are refreshing the agreement to some extent...

Still actively at the table working very collaborative with our pilot union to reach what we hope is a very good deal at the table for all parties concerned. Our goal is to reach that deal at the table in a few weeks....

We look forward to continued talks with our pilot union and reaching a world class contract and one of the

Sounds like every management statement on negotiations with their employees since the beginning of time.  What would expect her to say?

How dare the management try to reassure the traveling public and all the AC employess that are not members of ALPA ! The union always has their own selfish agenda and show little concern for the long term health of the airline.

The employees have a greater long term interest in the health of the company than anybody in management. You yourself told me that management skills are completely portable and that they can (and many do) leave at any time for greener pastures. It's not all uncommon for pilots, flight attendants and other employees to retire with 3 decades or more of employment - we got 5 years out of Milton ...more

That is a really a poor analogy. You are missing the fact that management has a fiduciary responsibility to all stake holders, even the unhappy pilots. The shareholders, debt holders , all employee groups ,the contractors , the flying public , freight forwarders and countless other identities depend on the solvency of the corporation. To jeopardise the financial well being of the corporration ...more

Just to clarify regarding a corporation's officers and directors' fiduciary duty; it's a duty to "the company". So yes this takes into account the general fair treatment/well-being of employees, but there isn't a duty to some of the external stakeholders; moreso they need to manage the company's effect/impact on - and reputation with - those stakeholders.
Comment by Tempo1 on Aug 14, 2024 8:08pm
Again to clarify the fiduciary responsability for all stakeholders.  There no mention of that responsability in the job description of employees and management.  It's a specific responsability of the boards members. The president and CEO is a member of that board and he has that responsability.  So, Since the responsibilities of management are delegated by the CEO and ...more

FYI mangement aren't goverened by a union contract.
Comment by jjwilson on Aug 14, 2024 8:12pm
You said, "the unions have little care for the long term health of the company" and I pointed out that the employees have, generally, signed on for life while the the management are simply hired guns who come and go as the wind blows. Now you want to talk about fuduciary responsibility.  What a joke.  As long as the execs file the correct reports according to the correct ...more

The pilots get paid as per their union contract. Management gets rewarded for the success of the company. Their stock options and bonuses are based on results. Therefore management has plenty of skin in the game Keep in mind that even the least productive union employee gets the same pay rate as the most productive member of the union.

Blah Blah Blah! So now if were to believe some of the bunk posters, if MR hadn't been around we would have had a rational ALPA, correct? LMAO. The real issue is a totally irrational ALPA that stepped out with peak nonsense promising a HISTORIC DEAL. Problem is they had already settled the Westjet deal. Same frigging nation, with same frigging high cost Airports and infrastructure. That is ...more

"Most Canadians understand that in Canada they don't earn US pay. That's how it is." Right, unless you are in the Executive suite and then it's perfectly appropriate. If you think the end result of this will be a contract comparable to Westjet - well, let's meet back here in a few months and compare notes. The banners (do you mean lanyards?) you might see at the ...more

ALPA union leaders are essentially parasites. That is why in the ALPA union was sued by their own members - the most experienced and senior pilots. The same members who had paid dues over a lifetime to fatten up these so called union leaders. A coalition representing senior pilots has sued the world’s largest pilot union, the Air Line Pilots Association (ALPA), accusing it of failing to fairly ...more

Well, first of all that article is from the USA where you'll get sued if your coffee is served too hot, or too cold! The fact that the union was sued means virtually nothing.  A regulatory change was proposed to change retirement age.  If the union agreed to it and/or supported it it would benefit the more senior members and harm the junior members.  If they opposed it the ...more

Typical defensive ALPA response. ALPA is out to look after its executive earnings and collecting fees. It's ultimately not about the well being of pilots, and as sure as hell it's not about the Care for Customers. Take a break and stop posting junk. Investors and Customers know what this is about. The Westjet deal set a baseline. Live with it.
