Not Customer Friendly!

So I called AC have to go in for surgery so I ask about the possibility of re-scheduling the flight or how I could get back any portion of my costs.  They said no my flight has a no cancellation.  OK so no problem.  So now they say to me but we expect you to call us and confirm if you are going to be a no show.  So I asked them like why would you not offer me something like a $100 coupon or $200 coupon for a future flight or even a couple of free drinks on a future flight?  Well because that is the way that flight is!  So I said to them why would I confirm to you or let you know I am going to be a no show for the flight?  So the customer service person said well that is what we expect!  I said why so you can fill my seat with someone else and charge them for what I already paid for lol?  FU but I did not use that language!  Just another reason I hate AC!  These people have no business sense!  Seems to me if you can retain a customer for the price of a drink why would you not take advantage of that?

That not an Air Canada's problem; it's an airlines industry problem. Thay all have the same behavior. It's so capital intensive, so a fixed costs industry that they evolve with tight and rigid rules for the customers. You can't change something without a fee. I certainly agree with the part not customer friendly. I have shares in a company I love to hate. Now before you all jump all over me and say sell an move on etc etc . I only hold the shares becuase I know there is profit to be made here. Ac has a monopoly on the country and the goverment will never ever let it fail. They have no feeling or do they even care about the little guy. I personally have ...more

While I am sympathetic and I hope you are doing OK after the surgery, based on what you are saying, this is the rules with the fare you purchased and not Air Canada's fault. In the past airline managers would have leeway to bend rules, but effectively, the fare you buy gives you what options you have for canceling and refunding tickets.
