The Detour Lake operation is located in northeastern Ontario, over 300 km northeast of Timmins and 185 km by road northeast of Cochrane, within the northernmost Abitibi Greenstone Belt. The Fosterville mine is a high-grade, low-cost underground gold mine, located 20 km from the city of Bendigo.

A classic: Here's Mike Sutton, talking about how he
ended up in Kirkland Lake (only one of 200 applicatnts who actually showed up on-site), corners named after people who crashed there, he and Stew Carmichael getting a boat motor and a guitar for a discovery, and eventually finding the South Mine Complex that would turn the whole area around.
