Beta Glucan and Obesity: New Study

November 17, 2021 CZO news release on CZO's oat beta glucan pill study:

"...continued efforts may be warranted to explore its effect on weight and body-mass index with prolonged exposure and possibly higher dosage."

"Of note, amongst some positive findings observed with different parameters, there were dosage-related responses in weight and body-mass index at 12 weeks, but they also did not reach statistical significance."

New study in mice strengthens understanding:

Impact of Plant-Based Dietary Fibers on Metabolic Homeostasis in High-Fat Diet Mice via Alterations in the Gut Microbiota and Metabolites

"Obesity is an epidemic, and its prevalence among United States adults continues to rise dramatically, increasing from 30% to nearly 42% in the past 2 decades."

"Importantly, β-glucan supplementation in HFD-feeding significantly improved bodyweight, adiposity, energy, and glucose homeostasis, along with increased concentrations of butyrate and changes in bile acid metabolism compared to control-HFD. These data demonstrate the therapeutic potential of β-glucan to attenuate body weight gain and adiposity and improve glucose homeostasis and insulin sensitivity in HFD-fed mice. These findings enhance the current understanding of the potential mechanisms through which β-glucan may be employing its beneficial effects, particularly by identifying gut microbiota-mediated mechanisms upon dietary fiber supplementation."
