Sangdong Mine Extension

I reread the most recent NR:

In order to generate additiona returns from the Sangdong Tungsten Mine, Almonty has therefore undertaken high level investigation of a viertically integrated nano tungsten oxide downstream processing plant which would be located on-site at the Sangdong Tungsten Mine

  • The build out of the WO3 plant is not included within the Mine Extension. So this is an additional cost.
  • I was ruminating on tungsten recycling. The quality of the tungsten will not be a homogenous mixture similar to what is taken out of the ground. This could be potentially more costly to process.
  • Furthermore, how to handle the heterogenous mixture and how to design a plant to handle such challenges and determine the build out cost is too early in the game, hence there is no way the build of the trioxide plant is included within the Mine Expansion loan.
  • But then again what do I know. Perhaps I am over thinking this and the recycled tungsten won't be as difficult to recycle.  There are others here on this board who are better qualified or at least have some experience to offer a more value added opinion from their perspective.

Much of the tungsten impregnated tool alloys are already routinely recycled.  One reason I'm pleased by everyone increasing the size of their tank fleets is because the standby ammo for those vehicles will be new, almost pure tungsten, and instead of being repeatedly recycled it'll be treated like gold, locked into secure bunkers and forgotten about until needed, and, unlike gold, IF ...more

GG....all this demand for tungsten is definitely going to push up prices.

My take on that IMHO :- $75 mil for the underground mine development and build out of the main APT process plant to initially supply Plansee/GTP with product. Start at commissioning through-put at 640,000 tpa (or so) to be ramped up to 1.2 mil tpa, now that is through-put not product, as that is how process plants are rated generally and the feed rate comes first for raw ore in drescription of ...more

I now think for sure that 3,000 to 4,000 tpa of product is the true projection for the "offshoot" nano project and not through-put of raw ore. So disregard my post on a small plant and upgrade that to a similar sized operation, which backs up my thoughts on the grey building. This link is 2016 but seems to be updated to Feb 07 2022. . https://miningdataonline.com/property/3406/Sangdong ...more

5ilver, after reading your previous post I was going to say the 3K - 4K tpa was of product and not raw ore, but you beat me to it. Based upon LB's statements, my number crunching fit in with LB's statements, i.e. Sangdong at max capacity and after Plansee got their share, there was 3600t left for the WO3 plant. That would imply recycling would produce the additional 12% supply to the plant ...more

APT? Is Sangdong going to produce APT? I thought it was just raw ore. Furthermore I thought Plansee did the additional processing on tungsten ore to produce an array of products. Your right. Its just a bad habit I have to describe the plant.

its ok to make mistakes I really like the fact that we all bring diverse points of view to this board. people agreeing and saying the same thing over and over provides no value.

No mistake, just a mind set that has stuck with me. I just had another brain snap at a poster on Hotcopper a few minutes ago. Some times I just cant help myself.

no worries..... :)

Most of the naysayers are bascially always using the lack of knowledge of the activities at site.  We know for a fact that the financing is through, only a bafoon would not understand that by now... Now its about transparency during the construction. So it would be great if Lewis holds up his promise to provide regular updates to shareholders. A simple dedicated page on the website with e.g ...more

Ionade, if we had the status quo then I would agree with you on regular NR releases as the Mine was developed. But this isn't the case, LB has to focus on the plan execution of the build out plus the design and integration of a WO3 plant. It is probably too early in the design phase to know exactly what is contained within the recycled tungsten. So I think LB will be heavily involved in that.  ...more

@Inonade and @5ilver..... I am not going to open an account on HotCopper to respond to the ill advised. So you can pass this on.... We are in an unprecedented period of inflation for the next few decades (if not more). Those countries that print excessive money will devalue their currency. So in other words a dollar today can buy less tomorrow. But the corollery is also true, what you buy ...more

In my post on HotCopper I said :- "CAPEX ? I'm not to sure on this, but the way I understand it is that if a mine has a high Capex and short mine life, it spells doom. If a mine has a high Capex and a 90+ year life span, all that is diluted into almost nothing and the only thing to uselessly think about is Opex.." It just came off the top of my head, but d

Whoops. I'll finish that question. It just came off the top of my head, but does that comment hold water and ring true ?

My 2 cents.... First of all, I am probably not saying anything that  many of you don't already know but trying to remember every nuance and sum it up together can be a challenge Does high Capex and short mine life spell doom? Really that is too general of a question to be able to answer.  Generally speak I would say yeah, however.... Depends on how funds were raised to ...more

LOL 2 cents worth. Thanks for part one, and it was a general reply to the "ill advised" HotCopper poster. I'm looking forward to the last 1 cent on "If a mine has a high Capex and a 90+ year life span, all that is diluted into almost nothing " This comment was made as a gut feeling from what I have learned in past years, and is also generalised. Any truth in this ?
Comment by QuarterDollar on Apr 09, 2022 1:45pm
oh yeah......and especially with the inflation that is coming, it will be less than nothing. But I am only referring to the initial Capex spend and not any ongoing capital outlays over future years.  When it was said that Almonty is going to be the 800 lbs gorrilla in the room, it is more like an 800 lbs gorrillia plus his whole family and extended family (provided LB keeps on the path ...more

Excerpt from Ionade :- "Now its about transparency during the construction. So it would be great if Lewis holds up his promise to provide regular updates to shareholders.
