Phase 1 to Phase 2 Development at Sangdong

Related to the comment today, and mentioned previously, about having loads of ore already at the site from underground development.

In the ramp up from phase 1 to phase 2 production levels, can someone remind me if all of the work required for this doubling of production is underground or is there upgrades to the processing plant.

I think I recall a discussion that the processing plant already has ample capacity for the doubled production level but don't recall with certainty.

The reason I ask, and I understand that benefits of ramping up production in a methodical way thanks to past posts on this forum, but would it be possible to increase production, closer to phase 2 levels before the underground work for phase 2 is complete because of all of the ore already available on site?

Thanks for any input.

1dollarinto2, you really ask a lot of questions. Good for all Almonty investors. I will do my best to answer. - Ore already outside the mine stockpiled is not a great lot, they just dont want to throw it away (high grade). Not important and no issues, but it should be the first raw ore to be processed to make room on site for other infrustructures. - Ramp up ? The process plant will initially ...more

I vaguely recall LB saying that Almonty can process significantly more than 1.2M tonnes. I was left with the impression of 50% or more.

I was just picking a possible percentage, but if you remember that (and now that rings a bell to me), then I would say "yes" without any hesitation at all. This CEO thinks way outside of the box and might come from a different planet to us. I still tip my hat to him.

for sure LB is a strategic thinker. I believe in an interview, LB referred to Almonty being able handle double capacity when either he talked about the installation of the mills or when the Dept of Commerced approached him, but it was 1-2 years ago.

Thank you for sharing, your mining knowledge is always much appreciated. It is a good reminder that the mine doesn't require moving huge amounts of material. I'm still unclear on what exactly needs to be done to move from phase 1 to phase 2 underground. When Lewis says they will start work on phase 2 underground in September, I don't understand what will be changing. Sounds like ...more

Yes, nothing is needed above ground for the process plant. I think phase 1 refers to the initital 600 metre strike zone at the top of the mine which is called the Hanging Wall (HW) and that is accessed from the first built top portal (Alfonse-D) well above the process plant level. Phase 2 imo should be the Foot Wall (FW1, FW2 and FW3) accessed from the lower portal (Momty B) at process plant level ...more
