Partial fills at RIPET

rfguysd, I wanted to point out a situation in January that may shed so light on your comment on no partial fills.

We had two ships arrive roughly within a day of each other.
Note my dates could be out by 1/2 day or more as I didn't think it important.

The Legend Prestige arrived Jan 11, not sure when it went to wharf, but it did leave the wharf on the 12-13th which was only after 1/2 day or so.  I remember looking at Marinetraffic and seeing Legend had actually gone to anchorage Jan 14.

The Pryxis Alfa arrived on the 12th and left 13th out to sea.

I lost track of what happened to Legend but saw that Rock58 post on Jan 21 "activity again.  The Legend is finally topping off its cargo...."

It appears the Legend partially filled on 11-12, left to let Pryxis load 12-13 and returned Jan 21 to top up.

FYI,
  • Ships are loaded by LPG transfer pumps at a rate of 3000 m3/hour

Interesting story GunnerG:   Another alternative was Legend  awaited at the wharf  and  no propane was loaded since Pryxis Alfa  was due next day.  Legend  was then  instructed  to go  to archorage and wait..  As Pryxis Alfa  was loaded most of the stored propane on Ripet  was gone  and Legend  needed to wait  a ...more

Also an interesting story. Keeping cold in our tank or on their ship, making room in our storage tank while waiting for the second ship to arrive, added cost of tugs; all add to the story.  Unwise to anchor with 1/2 load?  They do this all the time when offloading at different locations. Care to enlighten on the dangers of 12 load in port. Flip a coin I guess.

GunnerG:  all good points.  Perhaps the question is why would Altagas schedule  2 LPG tankers  to arrive roughly at the same time? Working from one of the suggestions that Altagas ran out of storage for propane in mid Jan, I seem to recall  Q4-2020 having difficulties “with 3rd party deliveries of propane”.  Does that ring a bell? Suppose that the railcar issue was ...more
