ALA vs. BLX

ALA has had a good run but I think it may be running out of steam. According to marketbeat.com, ALA has a consensus analysts price target of $25.25 which gives it only a slim 7% remaining upside potential. On the other hand, BLX, with a consensus price target of $50 and currently trading around $34.60, has an upside potential of a whopping 45%. I know where I'd rather have my chips on.

I wish you would stop.... I have listened to you for over a year now always spouting stupid investing advice to get people to switch out of ALA into either NPI or BLX... Why don't you just do everyone a favor and go away!... YOU WERE WRONG AND CONTINUE TO BE WRONG! Ala still trades tremendously cheaper (P/E and C/M) than both of your loser picks. Ala just came out with incrdible results ...more

Ignore him.  Hes' like a bad migraine.  Just when you think you'r e rid of it,  it comes back to haunt you.    If you had followed his advice,  you would have been out of ALA long ago and  missed the run into the mid $20's.   The next step is into the high $20's and quite possibly a  spike into the $30's.   ALA is firing on all ...more

Indeed VERY GOOD Advice !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Marketsense has no sense. Never did. Further to my earlier comments, INE is a pretty good bet too with the analysts' consensus price target being $25.56 according to marketbeat.com vs. the current price of $18.93 giving it an upside potential of 35%. Either BLX or INE are better bets than ALA with its paltry upside potential of 7%.

LOL.

Hey dumbbell, BLX was up 4.0% today while ALA was up only 2.0%.Tell me again how I'm always wrong, you idiot.
Comment by Johnwith30years on May 18, 2021 5:02pm
Gentlemen: you are talking apples and oranges here in the sense that BLX only pays 1.8% dividend and it is true that analysts see much more upsie over 12 months for BLX. The 4% Vega was rathe runique in that it was the result of a court decision which will not happen on a regualr basis.  It will be interesting to see how the market reacts when they hav etheir investor day on June 1st.  ...more

Boralex is a company that's capital intensive with a relatively high debt and inflated multiples (PE, Cashflow, EBITDA, etc). The only reason it could be considered cheap is because it is in a sector that's more attractive at the moment. The share price will vary more due to the market valuation of the sector than due to earnings/EBITDA/cashflow/dividend growth, which makes it ...more

«Boralex is the company in a hotter sector that will see wider swings in its share price based on the market exuberance.» This is exactly what I'm  thinking about ! Seeing the share price erosion from $ 56 to $36 in 3 months i decided to take a position at $ 36 because Boralex is an attractive investment and to be considered as a long term investment. For me, it was just for a & ...more

Why is comparing ALA to BLX nonsense? They are both utilities aren't they?
Comment by Vega1357 on May 19, 2021 12:55pm
Bossu, if you bought BLX at $36 that was the smartest thing you've ever done. Also, if you're only expecting BLX to go to $40 you will be selling it much too early. Scotia's target price for BLX is $55 and Raymond James has a $60 target for the stock.
Comment by Johnwith30years on May 18, 2021 7:46pm
Entirely agree. Apples and oranges.
Comment by Vega1357 on May 19, 2021 12:33pm
John, you are wrong if you're assuming that BLX's gains yesterday were due to the court decision. Actually the court decision was released early on May 17 and in spite of the favourable ruling BLX stock actually declined that day. BLX and other wind power companies like INE and NPI didn't make a big move to the upside until the following day and they all made it together, not just BLX ...more

Hey dipstick, BLX bested ALA for the second day in a row being up 2.7% today vs. only 0.4% for ALA. I WAS RIGHT AND CONTINUE TO BE RIGHT. Perhaps you'll be smarter in the future and start taking my advice.

Hey Red Good one and pretty funny especially because Vega did a huge deep dive on pure renewables right near the peak and loaded up on NPI. BLX, and INE (and probably on margin). I will definitely admit that I was very wrong on ALA. Crawford has done such an amazing job. As I said a while ago, a big congrats to all the dedicated ALA holders especially Johnny, He was right and I was wrong, and ...more
