Update on strategy

I think my last post (which had its critics) was my call to buy ALA when it dipped below 28.  I added. I have now positioned my entire position with call options @ $30 for September or December.

I will let half my overweight position be called away at 30 and roll out and up with remainder. More growth ahead but reaching 30-32 gives me a short term fully valued number. Still a good hold for years ahead for % of portfolio.

Retired fully yesterday! Cheers

Enjoy your retirement.  I have been retired for 12 years and totally enjoy the time traveling and summers at the cottage with my grandchildren.  Life is great.

Thanks Gunner: Where are you with ALA expectations  you can see I plan to keep about half of my position long term   and see 3o- 32 this year  - you?     John

I sold my position yesterday.  Made a nice profit but time to move on.  I see ALA at 31 - 32 this year as well. For me, I was looking for something with a bit more torque.  Bought some TD yesterday and expect it to rebound to near highs soon plus their divy is a bit higher .  Also, hoping TOU pulls back a bit, would like to get some more.

I sold a bit more today but kept a bit less than half for longer term,   I know what you  mean by torque as ALA moves very slow compared to other alternatives.  My only question is that about to change.  With rising earnings together with some decent growth, Ie.  Mountain Valley Pipeline in combination with rising dividends and more debt reduction  and less capex ...more

I think that Altagas is considered a safe holding (from economic turmoil) and I could see it trade at $35 by the end of 2023, which would be total return including the dividend of around 12%. The $35 target at the end of 2023 takes into account continued organical growth, value from MVP and an increase in LPG exportations. Further value could be extracted from a split between the utilities and ...more

Since I bought some at $15.00 a few years ago, it is ALREADY 100%  for me. I only wish that some of the dogs I got stuck with performed as well as ALA,, but you can't win them all....right?

I have been selling calls for multiple years but never against all of my position so I can buy back and sell more at a higher price further out if need be It is a nice supplement - rather like getting another 3-5% dividend.  Ill wait until the next earnings report to see if I think 35 is doable but its certainly not ourt of the question is all the factors you name kick in.  John

Congratulations on the retirement! This stock is coming alive lately. I have been quick to buy and slow to sell in the past so I thought I better take some of the chips off the table. Sold half my position today for a 50% gain. I'll save a bit for the taxman:) Let's see how the next few quarters go - especially w debt paydown amd dividend increases. Another 10-20% sp appreciation may be ...more
