AQN

I  have to say that I have really lost confidence in this company. My concern is that this drop in earnings was such a surprise. If the market with all its smarts didn't foresee this drop in a regulated utility stock, then what other surprises are lurking, and where could they be lurking? Interest rates is one big issue and they are going higher which will further add to AQN's woes - but these are foreseeable. Blaming poor earnings on lack of wind is another warning... I remember when a truckload of Wellbutrin was reportedly in an accident and was blamed for a Biovails poor earnings.... the truck was later found to be nearly empty at the time of the accident. Something smells.

@Tommy - you sound afraid that there really might be something hidden. Your way over the top response (which is nonsensical) makes you sound like a cheerleader.

That theory was posited by a University of Western Ontario professor name Philippe Rushton. His research consisted of taking loads of data from many many studies. Putting it all together with the idea that the bad data would cancel itself out and only meaningful data would remain. I attended Western then and was appalled by the lack of scientific rigour by this "social scientist" ...more

Yeah, explaining lower power production from a wind farm due to low wind conditions sounds like such a stretch... What's next, a solar farm explaining lower production due to a lower number of sunny hours? Crazyness!

@Capharnum - yeah it does sound a bit obvious doesn't it? LOL! What I mean is that the miss was HUGE, yet, the regulated utilities is 80% of its revenue. I haven't taken a look at the reports and I don't know where to find the data, but it's hard to correlate such a big miss when <20% of the business was "apparently" running under budget, ....unless there was bleeding ...more

Net adjusted profit per share was 11 cents vs 15 cents last year, which was disappointing for sure, but not as bad as most make it sound. Compared to last year: Regulated divisional operating profit was up $229 mil to $196 mil Renewable energy group operating profit was equal at $72 mil to $73 mil Adjusted EBITDA was $276 mil to $252 mil. Adjusted funds from operations were $206 mil to $170 ...more
