The question of $100 oil is only WHEN

Is it this year?
Is it next year?
Is it by 2025?
Is it by 2030?

Transition to EV's is choking. Tesla sales in Europe are collapsing, people learn that the range anxiety is real, the charge network is only somewhat accessible in larger cities, people finally understand that turning heat on kills the range where in ICE vehicles it doesnt, to build a proper infrastructure to support charging will cost trillions of dollars that will come out of our pockets, price of EV's and similarly equiped ICE vehicles is not even remotely close, price of charging can skyrocket any time. All of this is a wake up call that our reliance on the OIL is only going to increase. We have gone through a period where oil prices were kept artificially low but now this will come to an end.

What do you guys think? I think 2022 we for sure will see $100 WTI.

Telsa sales have collapsed in Europe, but its not because EVs are losing popularity. Tesla has been losing market share in the European EV market as VW and Renault-Nissan-Mitsubishi have caught up in the space. This in and of itself shouldn't be surprising...its extremely bizzare that the market prices Tesla as if it has a monopoly in the EV market https://www.cnet.com/roadshow/news/tesla-ev ...more

There will be a niche market for EV's but only that. It was a new and very well popularized and desirable product but as people learn more and more about it they understand their flaws. Even in Germany they learnt that when you have cold weather not only you have range anxiety, you have temperature anxiety that if in winter months you turn your heat on your range gets closer to the golf cart ...more

To be fair, I don't think there ever were "electric cars or trucks running around Texas" in the first place. I live in Alberta...same story...Teslas are pretty few and far between. Oil country is not big on EVs, surprise surprise. lol

Last year traveled to Houston and saw fairly many Teslas, which surprised me a lot. However I would say Seattle had probably 3 to 4 times more per 1000 vehicles. In any case I saw on twitter that spot prices for electricity in some areas of Texas went up as much that it would cost 900 bucks to fully charge your Tesla. I bet Musk didn't warn them about these potential additional costs.

LOL...obviously no one was "warned" about the additional costs. However, this cold snap in the south west is pretty unusual to say the least. Coldest weather there in approx 30 years. Pretty safe to say the entire state was caught off guard. quote=lovehockey]Last year traveled to Houston and saw fairly many Teslas, which surprised me a lot. Obviously JE is getting killed right now with the soaring nat gas and electricity prices down south. Their whole business model is selling fixed rate contracts to customers, which is predicated on the fact that the company can buy said electricity/nat gas to deliver for a price lower than the fixed rate This big unexpected price spike obviously throws a wrench in their turnaround plans...pretty ...more

Or the fact that generally speaking, when building projects, most people/companies don't build in anticipation of high sigma events... If weather of such intensity happens only every 30 years or less...is it worthwhile to mandate that all your  infrastructure be built to such specifications? Obviously if cost wasn't a factor, we would build everything to withstand every single type ...more

It will happen when our alien overlords order it to be so.  Unless we all wear tinfoil hats. 2025 or 2030 I don't know man, I don't buy green bananas.

I don't think OPEC will let the price get to US$100. At that price, it will hurt the economies of many of their customers and would have a negative impact on continued post covid economic growth as well as encourage more conversion to renewables. I believe they will have a hard enough time keeping the Russians in line given how quickly WTI hit $60 and Brent hit $63. I was hoping for a slower ...more

OPEC may not have capacity to overcome the future growth without help of shale oil. US would have to throw billions and billions more of printed dollars in order to have shale oil going. This may be unlikely at this point.
Comment by senseimike on Feb 16, 2021 3:48pm
When does WTI go to $100 ? Impossible to predict. Too many moving variables atm. It likely will go to $70 by Apr/May. Beyond that OPEC will be under pressure to increase supply and the Russians will not want to lose market share to the perceived American ramp up of production. Biden's admin and the necessary repairs to some shale balance sheets will slow it down but as WTI approaches $70 these ...more
