Hedged or unhedged

Does anyone know if Athabasca is hedged or unhedged? That might be a good thing to know with the earnings report coming up next week.

OMG with the friggin hedges again. Yes they have hedges. Does anyone NOT know that? Are you new or just another closet basher? For the 100th time, virtually ALL producers hedge. Especially if they have to deal with a bank for anything. So what? All those hedges saved more than a few producers from going broke 2 years ago. There was ZERO credit given to the savvy cfo that saved the day. The stock ...more

You need to relax Maxmoe. Not everyone cruises stockhouse all day every day like you do. Also not all producers are hedged so its a valid question, especially for someone who may be new to investing in ATH. Give your head a shake.

Thank you Beakr123. I wasn't trying to annoy anyone with my question. I only asked because today Baytex stock went up exponentially I read because a lot of their oil was unhedged, and therefore exposed to higher WTI prices. I have a lot invested in Athabasca and was hoping for a similar report from them next week. If their oil is hedged to lower WTI prices though I wondered how their report ...more

ATH price action is really strange to be honest. When oil producers were down, ATH continued to climb and did so for an number of days in succession. Seems as though something may be going on behind the scenes. ATH is working hard on reducing debt but are unfortunately still under the thumb of the banks so have had to put hedges in place. That said, 90+ oil is very good for ATH so I think we ...more

Thanks for the info! To be honest I'm a new investor in Athabasca. I noticed the great price action and jumped in only about 3 days ago, but it has remained relatively stagnant since I jumped in. I was wondering if I should move to another energy stock after seeing what Baytex did today. When I looked into it a little further I thought I should ask about hedging of Athabasca oil, and wondering ...more

From last press release: ATH in 2022 50% of the companies est sales volumes are unhedged, 20% sales hedged through WTI upside to $96 & 30% hedged through fixed swaps at WTI $67.50. 2023 less than 10% hedged. "ATH maintains excellent upside exposure to the current commodity price environment"

Check page 7 for details. AOC_Q3_2021_FS.pdf (atha.com) The collars are basically irrelevant, except for 4,000 barrels. The fixed swaps are the important hedges. Averaging about 14,000 barrels for this year.  They will lose about $120 million on hedges this year, but on crazy cash flow, so it sucks, but it's a one time. The same hedges saved them from going under possibly.

Obviously do your own research but I like ATH for the near term and will be hanging on. If you are new to energy, I highly suggest you take the time to comb through the ATH website. There is a wealth of information there to review to determine your comfort level with the stock which includes greater details on the hedging program. Hopefully I dont come off rude and like I'm talking down to you ...more

Yeah okay. How about since I "cruise stockhouse all day every day" I can smell a soft basher a mile away. And I can spot a sucker ( that would be you) if they fall for it. There was a crapload of info released by baytex. Which I also own. Hedges were way, way, way down the list if not completely off the radar. It's scrambling for anything to jump on should the stocks trade off a nickel ...more

Take your delusional rantings elsewhere.

Indeed. Now who said this? "Get off your soap box and go find a new hobby, your no good at this one.".  hint, it wasn't me. Must be some other delusional nutbar.  hint #2, it was a long time ago. Yesterday.   you're harshing my vibe from huge profits you missed out on. Don't be such a schmuck. Pass the bubbly.

Now who said this ? Nope, not you beakr, it was your buddy. I actually read prior posts before concluding he was a classic closet basher, or soft basher, just waiting to jump in with I told you so first time the stock sells off a little. Newbies don't soft bash, bad mouth every board they pop up on. Weasels with agendas do that. I've seen a dozen guys just like him all the way up from 11 ...more

Stay calm Max, your info is valuable to many us and you need to be around to enjoy the next double
Comment by DaveInvestor59 on Feb 25, 2022 6:52pm
Stay calm Max? Good luck with that! I may get frustrated and annoyed with some of my stocks at times, and maybe I post a few "annoyed" postings about how my stocks are performing, but I'm not a bully like you are choosing to instead insult people directly and call them names, and judging if you "think" they have ulterior motives. All anyone has to do is read your posts to ...more
