Anyone calling for Ath to pay a div

Just look at the big payers of 2023 CJ Surge etc and see how their sp compared to Ath who focuses only on buybacks. SIB hopefully in 2024.

Funny you say that especially with that name. Are you a disgruntled CJ investor lol. I agree share buybacks the way to go 100 percent.

Those companies you mention have debt, therefore payout ratio is high. Sometimes its a good idea to introduce a small divy when you are debt free. It attracts a new set of investors that mainly buy divy payers (especially debt free ones). According to latest release...... they are anticipating to finish the year sitting on $370M cash. Minus the debt, will leave NET cash $155M. They are forecasting ...more

I'm not sure but I think these guys are flying under the radar. They're better to pay off the debt and expand. I've been to leismer several times and I bet it has tons of expansion possibilities.

Agree that ATH has great assets for expansion. Issue right now is there is too much oil out there already. US production has grown by1M bbls/day in just one year. The NA producers will shoot themselves in the foot if they keep growing production. As mentioned here by others, the Saudi's could sink everyone if they throw that 1M bbls/day cut back into the market. If a NA producer wants to grow ...more

This is what I learnt recently owning some Gear Energy. Buyback is 100% better than regular base dividend for short and medium term as far as share price is concerned. Every dividend paying stock is way behind Athabascaif you take into consideration the last 52 weeks. I suggest that it is so much better to introduce a special dividend, very similar to what Tourmaline does. Give some cash back to ...more

You can do it that way but with a small company like Ath with such a large float, it tends to be a wash with no real appreciation to the stock price. For example, if the company decides to pay out $100M in a "special div", it would equate to appr $0.20/share. You get a bump the day it is announced but it drops by same amount on ex-div date and the company is out a large chunk of money ...more

100% agree. Regular Dividends just don't fit with volatile industries like all commodity producers. Special divy can work. It stops mgmt from blowing the wad on something stupid or "deworsifying" like CP and TRP did way, way, back in the day. Dividends are a beautiful thing from a solid steady growing company like a bank or proctor gamble that can grow the divy at a reasonable 3-5 ...more
