80% of our goods go to the USA. A trade war with them would be suicide.  Let's just patrol the border.

Hey jimmy, they are the ones who are calling it on. The border reasoning is just an excuse to go through with the tariffs. You heard Trump on the Sunday talk show, "tariffs are going to make us rich". You have to retaliate with tariffs of your own. Its a game of chicken, to see who gets hurt faster and how much pain you can take. This free trade deal we have with Mexiaco & USA, not ...more

You don't have to retaliate with tariffs, at all Matt.  Like Jimmy already mentioned. You perform your job correctly. And patrol the borders and control your own immigration within the country correctly.  As much as myself and the market needs guys like you to play the role as prey.  It is sad to see people defending our current government in any way,  at all.

Not defending the government at all.  They have done a lousy job on almost everything. The polls show that. If Justin really cared about the country, he would call an election asap. At same time, you cant compare Mexico border with Canada.  Trump mentioned using tariffs to raise money to help pay for all his promises, throughout the campaign. Obviously one hopes he does not go through ...more

This is not about bruised egos and being perceived as being pushed around. Trump was elected by All races of people. To deal with the flood of illegal immigrants and drugs into the USA. He has to deliver on this narrative. Inflict some damage on them, you say??? Why? Canada is in the wrong here! Why put millions of people's livelihoods on the line because of ingorance? Canada has everything ...more

Ya OK, Canada is in the wrong here. Threatening your largest trading partner with tariffs when you have a free trade deal is no way to get anything done. Canada can do a better job on their side but here are two sides to every border. Sleepy Joe has left the Mexican border wide open for anyone to walk across for 4 yrs now and you want to blame Mexico? The drug cartels are profiting from the laws ...more

Again, we just need to show that the border is being patrolled.  A full blown trade war is not something we win and several jobs will be lost.
Comment by matt2018 on Dec 13, 2024 4:28pm
Missing the point Jimmy.  Cda not looking to get into a trade war with anybody. Who's to say that you patrol the border more effectively on Cdn side and he still puts the tariffs on. Its something he's been saying he wants to do during the campaign. He believes revenue from tariffs from Cda, Mexico,China (his 3 largest trading partners) will generate revenue to balance his budget, pay ...more

Ya, I don't know. I think it's an empty thread. Trump has been trolling us for sts and giggles since he got in. Called JT the governor or the great state of Canada, which I thought was hilarious.
Comment by matt2018 on Dec 14, 2024 4:49pm
Maybe he is bluffing Jimmy or perhaps he is putting it out there before Jan 20th to see what a response/retaliation looks like. He's done it before, you have to be prepared. In his first term he put tariffs on Cdn lumber, steel & aluminun while they were negotiating the sham USMCA. He took them off eventually, once Cda retaliated with their own tariffs. Yes, they can hurt us but Cda also ...more

If Doug the Slug would direct his actions and vocal displeasure towards the real problem real Canadians have been contending the past nine years, his toothless theats would not be required. Seems the only provincial leader in Canada that is making any difference is the gal from Alberta, who up until now has exposed some huge cajoles.
