Lower interest rates

Will be restrictive to Corporate America contrary to the belief that lowering rates is accommodative. Another great argument for why recessions tend to occur after they cut interest rates. The money withers away but the interest payments still have to be paid.

Recessions of course tend to occur after cuts, thats obvious. Not sure I can get onside however with your other comments. Lowering rates is not accomodative, huh? Are you suggesting they are restrictive then?? "Money withers" what? So capex money at 5% is better than at 3%? Why is money withered? If it enables growth how is it withered? Not sure I am getting your drift there.

First of all, how is it obvious that rate cuts lead to recessions? Before I answer your question please elaborate on this.  It wasn't obvious to me until I looked at the data. It is counterintuitive which is why I bring this up frequently to these discussion boards.

It's a little bit of symantics actually, in the sense that it is not the cuts themselves that bring on the recession. It is typically the slowing of economic conditions, generally along with a weakening labor market (albeit a lagging idicator as well) that instigates the central banks to loosen monetary conditions through lowering rates (which by the way IS in fact accomodative but I won't ...more

Dz, you lost several debates with me in the past and you will lose another one if you wish to go further.  Please stop before you dig yourself in a deeper hole.

I've lost several debates with you? Oh ok. Guess I best put my shovel away then. Might want to get up a bit earlier in the morning if you are trying to bait me into an argument over what you have been schooled in, nice try though. You made an incorrect statement to which I corrected you and you don't like that, I get it. Not sure there is much you can say that will convince me that ...more

You are very condescending in your posts towards me and others.  Your arrogance is palpable.  What's that old saying again? Ignorance is bliss.

You would know, economist!

You are very immature and your age shows.  I cringe every time you argue with Gary.
Comment by DZtrader on May 23, 2024 7:56pm
"I cringe everytime you argue with Gary".....................................................thought you guys were a little too close. Kinda reminds me of Neil and Bob, if you know what I mean. I'll let yo fellas work out which one is which.

....................and for the record, no I am not condescending to others on the board, save and accept for the wizard. I do my best to be respectful and considerate to most here. As for arrogance, I think you are picking a fight with the wrong guy dude. If you want arrogance, look no further than the mirror. I don't post to try to impress people, some people like to hear themselves talk ...more

Dz condescension and sanctimony is more toxic than Garys understandable frustrations.  The replies are worse than the initial posts.
