Canadian dollar plunging below 70 cents

Not looking good for Canada.

This is classic stagflation. A lower dollar will make our productivity efforts all the more challenging in the new year. Less population growth and higher food prices on imports coming from the US will be the story line for next year. GDP will remain below trend and unemployment is rising as the Sahm rule predicted. Remember the yield curve that Google boy said is no longer relevant? Well, it has precisely predicted Canada's recession and the 10 year/3 month spread is still inverted!!! The media is gaslighting you if you think otherwise.

Unemployment is already 1.9% higher than its trough and a recession will typically increase the Ui rate to about 2.5%. In other words, we are already there but with no end in sight.

The Canadian dollar will continue to weaken and the stock market performance relative to the $ US will be abysmal.

That's my prediction.

Yes and let me connect the dots because this econboy fails to draw a single conclusion back to Artis. Typical accedemic... Incompetent outside of citing a textbook. CAD is weak and cheap... So borrow CAD. Leverage. Thru IBKR one can borrow at 4.5% or lower. Then you buy a REIT that holds US assets and generates NOI in USD. My two favorites are HR and Artis - HR being the superior investment in ...more

Further to this... I illustrate in the below X post how ta leverage REIT portfolio (with CAD debt/leverage) models into a broader portfolio and how one can achieve a net short CAD position and positive carry thru leverage. https://x.com/alphafortuna10/status/1869104832554156071?t=diMM24MoQZHDFDMCp-V-cQ&s=19

You are a dum dum Frankie. You are fixated on leverage for some reason. How about doing it without leverage?  Why not buy a profitable American company that trades on the Nasdaq or New York stock exchange and then sell it back in Canadian dollars in a years time? This way you win in two different ways: The American company that appreciates in $US when you sell the stock and then some ...more

I don't want to swap out of CAD u dweeb... I want to short it into the dirt, while I get paid to do so... Where you fail: You assume the investor has CAD to begin with. You assume the investor wants to close the position back into CAD. You assume the investor uses CAD as their unit of account. You fail to realize the only thing one should do with CAD is borrow / short it into the dirt. Come ...more

I don't want to borrow you dweeb.  I am Canadian you dweeb.  Most people don't use IBKR you dweeb You are a cheerleader and I'm not.  You dweeb.

The dweeb moniker cut deep eh? Good. Lol. You are suggesting to long USD via equities. I am suggesting to long USD and short CAD, via long equities with underlying US assets that generate NOI in USD paid for using debt in CAD. Only one of us has capitalized on what you explained in your original post that USD will outperform CAD. As I said, typical academic who can't think outside a ...more

My solution is much more simple. Most people that use Stockhouse are Canadians that are holding money in Canadian dollars and buy equities on a Canadian stock exchange.  You don't need to take on debt to make money in the stock market. Many Canadians are drowning in debt and the last thing they need is to borrow money they don't have. My solution doesn't involve leverage. You will ...more

I am loving all this good-natured ribbing from Torontojay, DZ, and Frankie.  I don't mind sifting through it to find Gary's posts.  I can't believe it has come to this! Baby Bunny

You're too much of an A hole to be Canadian, back you go. See how you just naturally make enemies. Frankie gives you a little lesson and instead of being grateful to have been schooled you start with your garbage. Frankie is right, you make many wrong assumptions, in particular, that you are smarter than some when it's long been evident that when you put your manual down, you are lost ...more

Its the other way around. My strategy is simple and effective and can be explained using a few words. You don't need to complicate things.  Buy US assets and sell it one year from now when the US currency appreciates relative to $C. However, since you are an old geezer, it's hard to teach old geezers new tricks and so it's easy to see how you don't understand my simple ...more

Yup the more he talks the more evident it becomes that he's not a serious player. His insults don't cut at all because the source is so inept. His posts have little to no value and he cannot think past first-order effects. I'm done with him. Hes not fit to clean your shoes DZ. Hope you and Mrs. Trader are well. All the very best.
