I remember that it was indeed fully explained: the shares granted were an award. Awards are fully taxable under CDN tax law, so the shares that were sold were to have enough to pay the additional tax.,

Adding the specifics -  On July 23 Tom E excercised 281,294 Rights to acquire 281,294 shares, and he sold 109,994 shares on the same day. The conclusion that he sold the 109,994 shares (which are 39% of the 281,294) to pay tax seems more than plausible.  Really not relevent to the issue, but my guess is Tom is both a US citizen and also lives in the USA, so I believe that means USA tax ...more

Is he bounded by those canadian tax laws, if he is american?
