Whole New Ballgame?

Legacy car manufacturers may have one eye on road ahead and the other looking in the rear view mirror. It's like EV is a new toaster with lots of varieties out there. One list for 2020 that I saw had 108 startups. I think this site is more current but nonetheless, like the established car makers, BB can't ignore them IMHO. Some are developing their own mobile tech, or so they say. Should be much innovation coming as long as these companies can stay in business.

It's amazing how many new auto manufacturers there are. This what it must have been like in the 1890s and early 20'th century. I wonder how many will still be around in 2050? How many ICE car companies from the last 50 years will have survived? Which ones will be the industry leaders? I have a feeling that QNX will still be a huge factor. That's why I prefer to own BlackBerry than an ...more

Digs...From what I've been reading, it soundslike there's a lot of interest in India and I'm glad BB has a foothold there. Check this little company out. They put together the world's lightest ev. It's only a one of a kind but the battery cooling technology is genius IMO. Even if these new manufacturers can't cut it, some amazing innovation will be worth looking at. Love ...more

IMO, there's a good chance that one of the start-up car manufacturers that nobody heard of a few years ago could be the market leader. It may or may not be Tesla, but I doubt that the leader will be one of those from the "ICE age".

The other front of the EV push in China is the battery chemistry. China started a very long time ago stock piling Cobalt and Lithium. The U.S. has 1 Cobalt mine that is due to start production in 2022 (this company sought financing / production for a decade or more). All these EV companies tout the need for ethically produced cobalt. The world's largest cobalt supply in the world is in the ...more

@yasch not sure when you got into Tesla but I guarantee you that in 5-10 years your biggest return will come from Blackberry! you can mark this post!!! and frame it!! I'm calling BB @ $1000 in about 5-7 years.  Tesla is kinda overvalued in my mind. It's trying to fit into its market cap. 1 trillion, they need to sell like 5 million cars to justify that amount. By time they can ...more

Yasch....are you having a few sleepless nights worrying about Huawei entering the ev playing field. They say in an article I read that Tesla is in their sights. I think it's long range sniper fire at best but I'll give credit to Huawei for the infotainment system HarmonyOS. Was that once ours or do we have a stake in that still? I don't think that would have went with the 90 patents ...more

Hedge, I wonder how successful cars with Huawei technology will be outside of China.  Huawei's image in the western world (certainly Canada and the other Five Eye countries) is tainted, to say the least. I certainly wouldn't want to be in a a car that could be controlled by someone other than the driver (or proven, reliable FSD technology).

Huawei doesn't care sht about Canada or US. They make best android phones so they will make best ev cars and take over China market. American and Canadian sht  cars are done when Chinese car start taking over the world. Mark and frame this post.

Per cnbc the current Chinese market leader is BYD, Tesla is second but catching up.  yeah I laugh when people and articles say $100 in 5 years. I wonder if they truly understand bb tech or vision. They also don't understand fb and other stocks that did 50-100x in last 5-7 years. I still believe without bb tech smart cities are impossible!!  anyways good luck man.
