Hmm some slimy words there

"unit book to bill" which means they shipped some G7500s and sold a bunch of Challanger 350s. I hate BS words like this. Its possible the backlog is SMALLER but we have no way to tell because they are using smoke and mirrors.
Comment by stockitnow on Aug 05, 2021 7:04pm
Backlog aircraft quantity is up. They sold more challengers then large jets thats why dollar value of Backlog is not proportionally high. But it is good that they sold more challengers then Global series jets as challenger has better margins due to its maturity. Challengers put in more cycles and flight time them long leg Global jets. In others words challenger needs more routine maintenance ...more

The backlog is not smaller...read again. Book to bill is about units sold. Doesn't matter what they sold as long as the backlog value increases...nothing negative here.
Comment by mnztr on Aug 05, 2021 8:09pm
How do you know the backlog has increased in value? I do not see this ANYWHERE.

Here's a bit of info that might help. https://www.investopedia.com/terms/b/booktobill.asp

Did you listen to the conference?
Comment by mnztr on Aug 05, 2021 9:08pm
No I did not, but the backlog is not in the presentation at all. Very suspicious. If the backlog has increased maybe you can tell me by how much? What did they say? I have seen the unit 1.8 figure and to me its a rubbish metric. 1 global is about 2.5 challangers.
Comment by Micmar on Aug 05, 2021 9:23pm
Book to build is 1.8 x 1 and backlog was 10.7B in dec 31 and is 10.7B in june 30.

mnztr, I agree that "unit book to bill" is a bit of a dodgy phrase if you go to the investor section of bomardier.com and download the powerpoint presentation from this morning's Q2 presentation, the backlog in USD is reported on the page labelled "Financial Performance" as of June 30, 2021 $10.7 bilion as of December 31, 2020 $10.7 billion so, unchanged over six months

Actually its common to report using book to bill ratio. Gulfstream also reported 1.8 to 1 book to bill ratio and they didn't break it down by model. This is done for competitive reason but at the same time it gives investors an idea of Backlog status and future work. Owning a stock of a company doesn't mean the company will show you all their cards. Bombardier and its competitors look at ...more

Hey stock. On my morning post after earnings I said the same thing that you are saying. I noticed the American analysts were trying to get information from EM and BD about the type of orders mix (medium to Large) and how many etc. To me that seems like they were trying to steal information for Gulfstream, and or Dessault, or even Beechcraft. These Americans are traders and can't be trusted ...more

Ok thanks I see it now, so if this is the case they sold more smaller jets vs Globals. At best this is neutral news, not good news. 1.8 is spin imho. This company must be treated with suspicion as they have missed sooooooo many goals, targets, dreams, fantasies.

It was not an increase, you said it was an increase. And increase is when it gets BIGGER FYI.

Hi mnztr. I don't want to get in between you, and stock here. But I'm just reading some of your exchanges. First you mnztr. I don't trust that they used the backlog last Quarter, to show a $400M cashburn, when I know that, it was only an excuse to throw out $400M cashburn from BT in the books. Let's face it. These guys are pros, and they could have put the $400M anywhere in the ...more

If they booked 1.8x the units and the $ backlog did not increase then the planes they booked as a group were much cheaper. 44% cheaper to be exact, then the ones they delivered in Q2. Its pretty easy math to do.
Comment by stockitnow on Aug 06, 2021 7:02am
Challenger cost ~ $30 mill with ~ margin of 11-15%. So 3.3-4.5 mill net per aircraft. Global cost ~ $70 mill with ~ margin of 5%. So 3.5 mill net. So per aircraft they are making almost same. With 1.8 book to bill they increased the quantity of jets in their order book but the gross dollar amount stayed the same. And as i explained in my earlier post, challenger will bring in more in after market ...more
