Market sentiment on Bombardier

Flamingogold recently shared that the perception (sentiment) of Bombardier is generally negative in Ontario (they hate Bombardier), where he lives. So, let’s look at the reality.

One of the best performing stocks on the TSX up over 200% this year. Up over 1,000% in last four years.

Listed as top pick by RBC, TD and Desjardin and outperform by BMO, NB and BNS.
High quality management team. Consistent improvement on the fundamentals – with a lot more to come.

Flamingogold’s decision is to hold his shares until the people in Ontario say “BUY BOMBARDIER”.

Smart.

We have a long way to go.

The street is where FOMO lives. I have yet to see it and instead get cringed looks when the name Bombardier is dropped. Perhaps BBD859 can chime in since he is from Ontario too.

Hey Flamingo I don't really discuss the Bomber with friends. The only people that I now discuss it daily with, are my kids. They're enjoying the upswing. I tell them what I think the shares will do in what time frame, and now they're believers. But even with them it took a while. They went through the tough time of nearly losing everything. But they're enjoying the ride right now. ...more

Even here in Quebec so many people hate Bombardier. I told a friend to buy bbd.b at $18 and said it was better to get an ETF. Told another friend to buy at $30. She did but dropped it when it dipped to $26 for a couple of days and her brother said it was a bad company! We were casting pearls before swine tyring to tell others how cheap bbd.was a couple of years ago. Tant pis pour eux!

However, a third friend who is Chinese listened to me and bought a couple of thousand two years ago. She's up well over 100K

There was a lot of bad press in Toronto regarding the issues (that were plenty) with streetcars.  If I remember there was even lawsuits raised by the provincial govern't and Bombardier both. It was a mess frankly.  And this most certainly led to a lot of negative press. Now one doesn't hear any of that (not because BBD sold the streetcar business but because they work great ...more

"The average person is unlikely to know that BBD is a transformed company and has jettisoned the rail business." Chirs, maybe you are from T.O. as well... I recall that piece of work Andy Byford who had it out for Bombardier when the rail cars were delivered. One bad set of doors and the media was all over it. This is what Torontonians remember. Yet, look at the disaster delay of the ...more

Hi Flame - yes, from the GTA.  It's not just the Eglington.  Look at Ottawa.  What a mess both are.  I drive down Eglington expecting to see a car travel on the LRT but nothing.  Just rails rusting.  Bombardier fixed everything quickly for Toronto.  Metrolinx is a political monster and a mess......I've been thinking a lot about when to cash out.  I ...more

Nice to see a few of us from TO, this used to be primarily a Francophone board, though I'm sure it still is. I think that the key now in the strech run, is patience. Everything points to an Investment grade stock, but it's still tricky getting there. Temp and I have dicected this some time ago, we agreed that it was a toss up. I put my money on Bart D. He'll figure it out, when he ...more

Agreed, the LTD should be low enough in 15-18 month for it to reach some of the definitions of "investment grade" As for Chris's comment as to when to cash out I am confident that I don't see selling before the full 2025 results are released in Feb 2026
