Trump and tariffs

While I personally hate Trump being elected, it is a good thing for business, wealth and ultimately more business jets

The question is would he levy tariffs on business jets that would affect BBD?  I have posted that I would think the wealthy could create an offshore corporation like the Bahamas to avoid tariffs since they have a team of accountants and lawyers working to keep their clients tax bill as low as possible

I'm not sure Trump would levy tariffs, what does everyone think?  If he did it would make the stock dump hard if he did

I think Trump won't.  For one suppliers for all OEM are global and US is home to majority of them.  It will hurt US economy the most.  And if US does levy tariffs then expect EU, Canada and others to do same to US OEM.   This will include Boeing,  and Boeing can use a lot of foreign sales.  Tariffs will make it harder for Boeing to get back up.

stock, I don't think he will either, but lets admit Trump doesn't think about repreccussions about his actions, that's what a raging narcissist does.  I recall he slapped on tariffs on some cars made in Canada that were largely made with US parts, a Chevy model which they actually showed a picture of during negotiations.  I don't think he thought it last time when he ...more

I agree with most your post especially our leadership or lack there of, but unfortunately we rely more on the US export market than they need of ours. It would be good if we had an industry that we could leverage on trade but we don't. Using electricity as a barganing chip would be good but I don't see the provinces who do export would cut a big chunk of their revenues, not to mention the ...more

smush, I threw out electricity as an idea, I am sure there are others to show Trump he doesn't hold all the cards.  Real leadership prepares for this and has a few cards of their own rather than Trudeau calling for his mommy I would much rather not do the tariff game, but we need to prepare, because that's what real leadership does given Trump's track record The more I think ...more

I agree with your assessment on the tariffs under the USMCA Stock. But I think he'll scare the Chinese with Tariffs though.

859, I agree China is on the top of his agenda and I am really not sure the Chinese will care.  Everything the USA (and Canada) buys is from China, seriously look at the labels, which means the USA consumer will ultimately see mass inflation If I was China I would say go ahead, you are taxing your own citzens more.  Where do you think your TV, computer, kitchen appliances, printers ...more

I've gotta agree with you, the Chinese don't care. They'll still have a great customer in the USA.  Our problem is much bigger with the USA, than China's is with the USA. We should have never dropped the tariffs and get into NAFTA. Thanks to Mulroney. He was a Canadian traitor. He sold us out. We had our independence as a country. Things like RE were cheep, and we had great ...more

859, I wasn't that experienced when NAFTA came in and still really don't understand the history.  Ultimately from what I saw (limited experience) it shared resources openly and recognized that the US and Canada were the worlds largest trading partners.  Our supply chains were intertwined with the same part crossing over the border multiple times before it finally made it into the ...more

Thanks for the research, I forgot. I have to Google some of these things sometimes. You're right the original deal with the US and the US was signed in 1988, just for the two countries, and expanded to include Mexico in 1994. Sorry I'm just doing things by memory.  Btw Canada's first housing Inflation problems started in 1989, with over Immigration from Hong Kong, and this time ...more

I don't think he will go after the wealthy in the US. He's a deal maker when it comes to repatriating cash from the wealthy US companies into the USA, and charging them a smaller interest rate to bring their cash from other countries into the US, if you recall? So he understands that the wealthy are the backbone of the economy. The only regret I have is, is that he's not behind bars ...more
