He won't.  Trump is saying that to save face.  Otherwise he would have done it today with all the other orders he signed.   Come Feb 1st, and he will say that after review by his team, Canada has met the requirement for border security, etc. and trade is fare so no tariffs.

This was my understanding from the beginning when he first uttered the 25% ... the only worry is that he is unpredictable and a much more looney tunes than last term .., doing all that signing today is  proof he wants to throw his weight around and he knows how to do it now .. he declared the Mexico  border a national  emergency ... hopefully Canadian officials can hash out a deal ...more

This is why I feel they will only put a small Tarrifs on EV Vehicles to appease Musk, and that's it. He didn't declare the northern border an emergency in today's oval office scrum. He is definitely going after Mexico on Feb. 1/25 . But when Feb 1/25 comes, he'll get the report that Canada has complied with the NATO, about the 2% spending on Military.
