TD did talk about BCE this morning with a nasty note questioning the sustainability of the dividend and implying that the company has been hiding critical information regarding FCF deep in notes. Interest rates rise, utilities share price drop. Pipeline, Com stocks etc behave very simialr to Bonds, with an added risk factor. When your primary return is dividend yield rising rates and higher rates for longer are not your buddy. Rest of the utilites, REITs, Telecoms etc are showing the same pattern..

Just saying this sector and the others you mentioned will be a good spot to be when the upward rate cycle comes to an end. Not there yet...maybe later next year.

Hey Dib Can never be too sure as we have had a few unexpected major cuts like ALA, IPL, and AQN.  Not that I would call them stalwarts but there sure has been a large number of REIT divy cuts including 3 that we had owned - D.UN, AX.UN, and HR.UN. Luckily we didn't own any of the many other cutters.  The REIT divy cuts and lack of divy increases is why we don't own any REITs

Hey Griz Yup, good old Dundee/Dream. It's the only REIT we've ever owned that we lost money on. When the dust settled, we did incredibly well overall with REITs with big dough from a couple take-overs like NVU.UN and AAR.UN, a timley total sell on GRT.UN when the yield got below our 3% cutoff at the start of 2022, and DIR.UN when we decided to sell our last REIT earlier this year. Well Brian Acker DID talk about this stock today on BNN.  This guy is not right too often BUT he had  VERY STRONG NEGATIVE opinion on this BCE. his 12 month model /target price is UNDER $47.00  CAD. They are NOT covering their dividend at this time.  The Divi WILL be cut soon "DO NOT buy this stock until at least next summer! "   I do not own
