You Guys Recommending Retaliatory Tariffs are Dellusional
Of ALL Canadian Exports 77% goes to the U.S.. No other country accounts for more than 2 or 3%. Tariffs on that much of our exports is going to have a very large impact. 50% of our imports come from the States, but at $281 Billion we are a TINY drop in the bucket of the $3.1 TRILLION they export annually and that 3.1 trillion is only 11% of U.S. GDP, so retaliatory tariffs will have no effect. (U.S. GDP is 28 Trillion, Canada is 2 Trillion. Our exports are nearly 50% of our GDP, with 77% of that going to the States.) Who do you think has the big stick in this fight.
Trump's first announcements of a 25% tariff are a penalty for Canada and Mexico's Porous and open borders. It is only the first salvo. Our only way forward is to align, and most of what Trump wants out of Canada and Mexico we should be doing anyhow.

Agreed. The only hope is that Turdeau isn't as stupid as those calling for retalitory tariffs. So basically we're doomed. But yeah, Turdeau basically needs to become Trump's lapdog or Canada's doomed. And I don't blame Trump one bit. Wish we had leaders that actually looked out for their country and citize

The point is, threatening retaliatory tariffs will get U.S. states most affected yelling loudly in Trump's ear. But all this is cart before the horse. Trump's (typical) blanket statement makes no sense whatsoever and it's doubtful much will reach the negotiating table.
