Patrick Horan

on BNN this morning says to avoid canadian telcos, he says it is now a competitive market wireless prices are coming down, price competition is here to stay and likely will get uglier, he thinks atleast one of the big three will be forced to cut there dividend and that will re-price all of the telcos lower. he says he is short selling the telcos.

Well...he would say all that if he is short. I would say that now night not be a bad time to buy all these dividend payers in sectors that historically demanded huge capital investment...say   BCE, T, ACO, ENB, TRP,....etc and at the same time buy a healthy weight in gold and oil and gas stock to protect oneself should inflation truly get out of control again. The divvy players have ...more

I do know that I get a lot of wireless offers from Bell recently, they are now offering wireless deals much more aggressively than I noticed in past years.  That tells me that rates have come down, or are heading that way. Cost pressure on wireless, and on legacy cable/fibre really makes me wonder why they raised their dividend this year, but the people who made that decision know much more ...more

they seem to have a very good track record , trying to find their AUM total   644% return since 2007  they are currently short utilities and telecoms  , both @ 10% of total assets  https://agilith.com/assets/factsheet.pdf
Comment by HoneyBadger77 on Apr 01, 2024 2:09pm
And how much of that 644% in 16 years was from shorting and how much from going long?  644% equates to over a 40% average annual return and they sure didn't make that high of an annual return going long only. These funds have deep pockets and can and will change direction in a blink and make profits in either direction unlike retail investors that mostly buy long and hold.  They ...more

". . . the only time these funds publicly tell retail what they're doing is when they're either doing or about to do the opposite." You got that absolutely correct--these are the sort of things you learn with time and bad experiences.
