Brookfield Renewable is buying a large portfolio of Duke Energy's wind and solar power-generation assets in a deal valuing the unit at an enterprise value of US$2.8 billion.

GLTA Duke said it expects net proceeds of about $1.1-billion from the sale, which the company will use to help incorporate more than 30,000 megawatts of regulated renewable energy into its system by 2035.
