I am disappointed that the dividend is only $.02. A number of energy companies are paying out much more generous sums.  Maybe I picked the wrong company to play high NG prices? What am I missing?

Not sure what you are referring to: We got a special dividend of 0.20 CAD on OCT 28 2022. BIR's plan is also to increase the dividend to 0.20 CAD per quarter = 0.80 CAD per year in 2023. "After the payment of Birchcliff’s targeted 2023 annual common share dividend of $0.80 per share ($0.20 per share quarterly), we are forecasting that we will have a cash surplus(4) of approximately $295 ...more

BIR has outpaced almost every other stock in the sector...was as low as 65 cents 2 years ago showing 1700% returns on that. BIR will pay an 8% div next year, so while its 1% is not attractive right now stock appreciation and new dividend make it well worth the purchase.
