MMED, In 25 years of investing the only ways I've seen the broker bypassed was through employee purchase plans and dividend reinvestment plans - for which you must be an employee or already own shares. In general you require a trading account (broker) and you can place orders with them over the phone or online. Discount brokers are the cheapest way to go, given that you can't simply walk ...more

I hate to break it to you but the Bankers story is slowly coming to an end. IMO it's a little late to be stepping in now. If it's a bet you want to make on OIL, that's a different matter. You understand that there's only 13% to be made to the upside when the deal goes through in 6 weeks. The way you are talking with this "I know what Albania has to offer" sounds a bit out ...more

Yes, you must use a broker. Discount brokers are much cheaper and have essentially the same commissions across the board. If you're happy with where you bank you might want to simply give their discount brokerage a try. I think BNK is a good choice as a low risk trade for you. The SP should drift higher as the clock ticks down toward the end of June & end of the deal. If the deal falls ...more

Further to last. FYI: The current interest is BNK had little if anything to do with "what Albania has to offer" and everything to do with the Chinese (Geo-Jade Petroleum Corp.) buying BNK for $2.20 in a deal that is supposed to close before the end of June. So for $1.90 and change today you get (in all probability) $2.20 by the end of June (if the deal is not extended). You don't ...more

Chuba, That's a pretty bold statement "worth that much more given the current oil price" I don't know where you are getting your stats from , but I think you are wrong. I would suggest that you over-lay a chart of Brent on a chart of BNK. Much more, is a gross over statement!!! Also, saying BNK is a low risk investment needs a qualifier. It's a low risk investment in a HIGH ...more

BC, you are misquoting me - and sounding oddly argumentative. Did you think I was trying to make the case against the deal? I did NOT say ""worth that much more given the current oil price". What I said was that "many would argue that should the deal fall through BNK is worth that much or more given current oil prices". And many have made that argument on this bull-board ...more

I prefer "provocative" rather than "argumentative"! LOL

MMED, Further to last.... the big banks all have discount brokerages. You can look them up online or go into your local bank brank for info and/or to get signed up for an account. It may take some time (possibly days) for them to process your account application & get you set up to trade. So if you're wanting to buy BNK you should apply for an account ASAP. Then you should start reading up ...more
