Technically the average "current" BTE shareholder is up big

These are the facts. Consider the following:

"The length of time that investors hold shares has been shrinking for decades but the trend accelerated this year in volatile markets that have made people nervous about sitting on investments for too long.

There are different ways of slicing it, but Reuters calculations based on New York stock exchange data show the average holding period for U.S. shares was 5-1/2 months in June, versus 8-1/2 months at end-2019."

Sure there are anomalies but stats and the curve tell the story.

So let's argue 6 months or say YTD.

Consider the following companies I hold:
Symbol, Dec 31, Jun 15, % YTD
ENB, 41.59, 49.70 19,5%
SU, 22.16, 31.27, 41.1%
CNQ, 32.36, 46.20, 42.8%
MEG, 4.59, 9.21 100.7%
WCP, 4.83, 6.50, 34.6%
CPG, 3.12, 5.72, 83.3%
BTE, 0.86, 2.24, 160.5%

Tough to argue hard numbers. Average investor holds say 6 months...my best YTD return so far sure enough BTE. Undisputed.

That is complete b u l l sh i t.  If you picked the very bottom than yes you have done well.  Anyone who invested pre Covid has sucked air for 10 years.  I purchased in 2014 and am down 96 percent 7 years later!  This is after averaging down on ten different occasions.  BTE is a money pit and I kept dumping more and more into it!  How can you can ignore the $50, $40,  ...more

The risk of course is that people don't have a financial advisor to help guide them or recommend/provide a sobering opinion I always believe you get what you pay for. Pay for good advice and returns are good and constant. DIY regardless of business can end in disaster. I fear some are DIY types in the markets today. Years ago my wife asked if I wanted to try and redo the driveway ...more
