Exit conditions or exit price?

Lots of mentions of exit price. I'm kind of more interested in exit conditions. I study data and the data says Nuttal's view of a supply demand imbalance is right. Barring a major demand collapse, we gonna short a few barrels soon. I have a notional timeframe in mind but if the market conditions continue to point to a shortage at the time, there's no need to sell.
the other half of it is.... It's not just "investing" for a lot of folks here it's a hobby. Ya you can walk away because you have enough money but then what? You going to stop paying attention to the world around you? I'll build a passive income stream from stable blue chips, but I figure I'll always dabble in the BTEs of the world

I spent 30 odd years in O&G , this is a labour of love , not a hobby . I have had a front row seat to this supply trainwreck that green politics have saddled us with . The damage green politics have done ...more

Still I see my friends and colleauges calling me names( Eco terrorist) for investing ni O&G . The oilmen are the hardworking folks who bring prosperity to this country. Not the jobless  ...more

YES! THIS IS THE RIGHT QUESTION! Finally some good board discussions! I agree this is not about a price point but looking at the conditions that provide optimal returns. I also agree it's a good hobby. Let's be honest my banks and the divy and security is just plain boring. But now we are talking the right question...what are the conditions...not a predetermined price! I think this ...more

I define my exit conditions as either  the back half of the energy super cycle  or when recession starts...   Have no idea when  and what price range of this energy super cycle !  I am thinking if the energy stock is busily doing its job of  attractive FCF, share buyback and super return of dividend to shareholders, then why do I have to sell then !!!  It is ...more

I agree with you.  Even if I sell, WHAT would I buy??? If the O&G sector is undervalued after years of neglect, even with a market downturn, this secctor may still outperform. Assuming that in a downturn oil is steady at $65, these companies would still be making excellent cash and that would allow them to pay down debt, introduce divies (or add to them) or buyback shares. With covid ...more
