That's it in a nutshell dandu1924 , in my profession we use monitors and meters powered by 9V batteries and at -30C they last about 5 minutes before the screens go blank . Cold temperatures are a battery's worst nightmare and you have to ask , how many people will be stranded and possibly die because their vehicle ran out of power unexpectedly on an average winter day in Canada .  I&

I think Nothingmatters is talking about a secondary system to heat the primary battery which will only add to the weight in an attempt to maintain vehicle range in winter weather . You could however add an option for a wind turbine on the roof of the vehicle to charge the secondary system but then you are transittioning from logical thinking into aspirational dreaming .
