Country is run by idiots voted in by idiots.  Go woke , go broke.

You can't fight inflation by lowering taxes, it'll just exacerbate the problem.. inflation IS a tax. Its the most regressive and punishing tax there is and it's caused directly by government. When you don't pay for government largesse honestly through taxation, you pay for it through inflation. The only way out of this mess is by RAISING taxes on the middle class and/or reducing ...more

Nothing in that article mentions windfall tax. If anything they can tax the profits on capital gains on real estate

However, in a separate press conference Tuesday to address the rising cost of living, NDP Leader Jagmeet Singh argued the way to tackle it is by imposing an excess profit tax on big companies. “We see clearly that corporations are making these massive profits. They’re making record-setting profits and their record-setting profits are directly contributing to the cost of living going up,” Singh ...more

If that was the case, taxing excessive profits, then maybe sock boy and his puppet ought to tax big banks and for that matter real estate investment cooperatives and their flips. Just my 2 cents ....

I got a chuckle out of that article. Navneet with nothing but slogans. I think we're more likely to see a few sprinkled, time boxed tax cuts. The liberals are a bit vulnerable. Revenues are breaking records, a couple little tax holidays and the liberal talking heads will be shouting from the tree tops about having listened to Canadians. A windfall tax on the other hand will be across the board ...more

I agree JD, I think we see the government implement what others have with a gas tax holiday. Imposing a windfall tax on Oil and Gas would be a strategy disaster for the liberals and kill them in the west. I have talked to many here in Ontario and they all agree JT would have to be a fool to consider it. A gas tax holiday is easy. That said Baytex and many Cdn O&G companies have billions in ...more

This would make sense economically but im also afraid of socialists ability to understand economics.
Comment by BayStreetWolfTO on Jun 07, 2022 6:07pm
James, I think you give politicians too much credit. They don't care about economics or for that matter making things easier for people....they care about votes. A windfall tax on O&G kills the vote in the west....a gas tax holiday would improve their votes country wide. It's not about economics...it's about what gets the most votes. A windfall tax doesn't get as many votes ...more

damn auto correct. I meant Jagmeet with nothing but slogans

Ridiculous!  Where was the help when oil went negative.  Hopefully the conservatives will be against it.  The US has no chance passing a windfall tax as the Rebubicans would never pass that.  Let's hope we don't start hearing this type of talk pick up steam in the commons.
