Dandu, all this would do is have companies divert shareholder returns to dividends. Now sure liberals could target dividends...but LOTS of senior rely on dividend money...it would mean taxing all dividends...banks etc etc You want to lose all those invested in dividend income vehicles good luck lol I'm easy...if Baytex switched in 2023 to 50% FCF to dividends instead sign me up LOL....

My concern is: If they can taxe the buyback of the oil companies them they can also planning to taxe the dividend from the oil companies ex: from   15% to 25% or 50% or 100% they can do that too and Trudope does not care about the seniors and finaly about the canadians, he is just focusing on his own stuff. This Trudope gov trying to do everything to put down the oil sector.  This ...more

Do note the many pensions hold dividend funds....government, private etc I believe the CPP alone makes 11 billion /year in dividends...think of everyone who holds banks. Just sky is falling Liberal talk....they are out of options...the only option was investment.

Meh, the US implemented a similar tax effective Jan 1 '23 at a rate of 1%, Canada would likely match the rate as setting it higher will risk corp HQs re-domiciling in more friendly jurisdictions. I'd prefer not let the camels nose under the tent in the first place, but any new tax of this kind will just result in increased dividends.  https://www.taxpolicycenter.org/taxvox/1-buyback ...more

Yup, they did the same to the banks. Liberals always fail to realize that the problem is there spending. Solution is always the same tax more. With interest rates way up and more to come all of that government debt is going to be very costly, disaster in the making. Solution bring in more immigrants, no new hospitals though because the new people must not get sick. And yet I know people that still ...more

Voters are stupid and will always vote for santa claus, thats the problem with democracy and one of the reasons the US is in decline. The founders gave them a republic, but they couldn't keep it..
