WSJ Article

So if we are to believe the pundits, one "news alert" from the Wall Street Journal caused gobal oil prices to drop 4-6% in 1 hour,  and then only to recover 2 hours later. It required the UAE to step in and publicly discredit  the WSJ "news statement". All this sounds a bit fishy to  me.  I feel bad for those who panicked and sold on the fake news. Or was it fake news? At this point, manipulating the media would not surprise me.

Of course it is being manipulated. The thing that I find odd is that some very big traders made their moves based on a story in a newspaper. Whatever happened to doing your own DD.  Maybe these same traders will start to learn to NOT trust the media.

JP Morgan says 90% of all trades are algos now, The thing i find odd is that some very big algos made their movess based on a astory in a newspaper. There i fixed it for you.

How did you fix it, Algos can't read!
Comment by Cobalt on Nov 22, 2022 9:34am
yes algos read and do TA
Comment by Cobalt on Nov 22, 2022 9:42am
which then makes TA self-fulfilling

And this is the crux of the matter. If the algos see a gap up to fill, they are programmed to fill the gap at a later time The algo's are all doing technical analysis, and as they are effectively in control, the TA will always eventually win.

93% get filled best odds i know of in the markets

And yet they cannot come up with a way to consistently win. Show me which fund uses nothing but algos and kicks the markets butt all of the time. Should be easy shorting Facebook all the way down or all the way up, just use the algo. Its kinda like moneyball except everybody has the same playbook.

You dont know they read how you know they dont consistently win? its rare a big trading house has even one day they dont win in a 1/4, just stop.
Comment by Cobalt on Nov 22, 2022 10:16am
H*ll in trading circles you can get free algos that make you a few bucks a day
