Eagle Ford drilling productivity

Take a look at the chart below.Drilling productivity in the Eagle Ford region seems to be falling very quickly . Comments anyone ?

Good find. At first glance, the decline in barrels / day from new wells being drilled at Eagle Ford during the last few years does look terrible. I think there is a reasonable explanation. In 2020 when Covid hit and the price of oil crashed, capital for drilling new wells was hard to come by. Larger companies with deep pockets could still afford to drill but they were only drilling their very ...more

Thank you for your in depth reply. Nevertheless, I am still concerned by the fact that the Eagle Shale region seems to be experiencing higher declines in productivity than the other oil  shale basins . As far as nat gas goes, the decline rate is the second highest (after Appalachia ) Also please note that the rates shown on the charts are bbl per day per rig per month of drilling rather than ...more

Godd recap Uwebb ! In the other hand, NGL exportations are going to increase for many years, in Texas they are very close to oil and gas ports to export their new nat gas too. It's a very diversify play, if WTI and nat gas reach again 90$+ and 3,25$+ as many expert sees in the short term, a lot of invesotrs will change their view about the deal ! It's true that drillers will high grade their targets when budgets shrink, but no one can drill all their locations simultaneously so the targets are always being high graded.  No one drills their worst targets first - as an ex-CEO I can tell you that everyone drills their best locations first.  Companies do try to improve the economics in lower grade areas by drilling longer ...more
