That great news! Hopefully we start having are day in the sun soon! Was thinking sometime in early June..

Anyone good at doing the math?  BTE @ $4.60ish/sh takes over Ranger @ $39.00ish/sh.  Even with BTE assuming more debt and recaluculation of outstanding shares, you would think that at worst BTE jumps to $8.00/sh.  Maybe more??? Fingers crossed

Your joking, RIGHT !!
Comment by CoachAmI on May 19, 2023 8:25am
Honestly, I have no idea how someone would go about figuring the new value.  I've never been invested in a company that has gone through a merger like this.  You posts (along with Red and retiredcf) are some of the posts that I trust the most.  I just put the post out there to see what your thoughts were. I don't post much because my experience is limited compared to many ...more

I am in the same boat Coach.  i am not an expert on Energy (oil), but I do try and read certain posts BOTH BULL AND BEAR, to try and get a better idea.  Personally I think oil goes up but...

Well sure, I am no expert either but for coach to suggest that when the Ranger deal closes on June 21st that this stock jumps to 8 bucks is just wrong imo. Is the Ranger deal not priced into the stock today?  I like the Ranger deal long term but in the near term Bte goes up if oil goes up and the inverse is also true.

... I believe that Baytex now has more torque both to the upside and downside.  The sp is much lower than their peers.  Baytex stubbed their tor when they announced the Ranger acquisition when we all bought into the 5 year plan to reduce debt.  They did have an inventory concern and now they don't.  They will also gain much more attention from the portfolio managers and ...more

Well, FWIW, Morningstar has a fairvalue of $6.90....that would be profitable for me. Have to say that Eric Nuttal convinced me of heaven and earth with his recommendations on this stock and why I added in the low 6.   I should have known better too. :)

I am long and there is nothing that I would rather see than the stock to double or more. But I also am a realist and while I think the stock can double I am quite sure this will not happen in a month. Maybe if we have $85 WTI for a full year we might flirt with 8 bucks.   Hope I am wrong and coach is right!!
Comment by CoachAmI on May 19, 2023 12:54pm
I just didn't think that Ranger could be fully priced in until it officially closed.  The latest announcement pretty much finalizes the deal, so I expected a small bump now with a steady increase until the end of June.  JMO.

The current BTE share price fully reflects the Ranger merger. It is not magically going to go up once this deal becomes official in June. Everything about this deal is already known. There are no surprises that are suddenly going to move the market.  BTE will go up when the price of oil goes back up and it will go down if the price of oil goes down. BTE + Ranger might have more torque when ...more

Wow,Now This Guy Is An Oil And Market Expert, Your Wrong Buddy And I Have To Ask If Your Shorting Baytex?
Comment by uwebb429 on May 19, 2023 3:05pm
I am not shorting anything. The current price is a great price to be buying. No one will be disappointed a year from now if they added shares any day this week. When this deal was announced with more than 50% of Ranger shareholders already approving, it was immediately a done deal. The share price adjusted based on that information. The share price also dropped because WTI dropped under $70 a ...more

Actually I disagree. BTE has dropped 50% in sp since the announcement of this deal.  It is pretty common to see the purchasing entity drop in sp as they add on debt and increase the o/s count.  The fact that oil was negative for 4 weeks in a row just aggravated the downward pressure on the sp. I can see this trading above $6 once the deal is finalized and fully absorbed (July'ish???)
Comment by uwebb429 on May 20, 2023 2:39pm
On February 27th, the day before the Ranger announcement, BTE closed at $5.83. Yesterday BTE closed at $4.62. That is a drop of 20%, not 50%. WCS is down 5% since the announcement and AECO natural gas dropped to $2.00. Throw in some production shut ins due to raging wildfires across Alberta and a 20% drop in BTE is not as bad as it looks.   It might take a couple of quarters before the ...more

$4.18 was the low and $6.03 the high just prior to the deal announcement.  I am eyeballing it and "YUP" it looks darn close to 50%...
