ATH vs BTE

ATH tar sands production waste enormous quantities of fresh water using 2.5 barrels of freshwater for every barrel of oil of tar sand produced. Companies get freshwater from Athabasca river one of North America longest free flowing river and nearly all of it ends up too contaminated to return and the oil produced from tar sands has to be sold at a steep discount because of sulfer and has 3 times  as much greenhouse gas pollution as conventional crude does! thats the difference between BTE and ATH and I feel all tar sands should be shutdown because of this.

Agreed with you tradinghands ! We can't compare both ! For me, ATH is the kingdom of shorters ! I done it 3X before ! Save it for the greenpeace notice board.  Every Oil company on the planet uses water to extract oil. Some use more, some use less. Some use less than they did 5 years ago.  If you're suggesting that you should invest in Baytex because they use less fresh water than Ath - your post is pointless here. Eat Beef.

This is factually false, in Alberta water reuse is mandated so it is not 2.5 barrels of fresh water per barrel of oil produced.  Even when makeup water is used it's brackish water which is water deemed unfit for agricultural use.

What K rap. I have been there/here many times The Bitumen has been flowing naturally into the river for thousands of years The natives have been using the bitumen to build canoes and such for as long. There is no shortish of brackish water and I could not pick a better place to have an Oil mine It is in the middle of no where and the peoples that live here now , choose to do so. They make a ton of ...more
