It you don't have the right perspective, you will reach the wrong conclusion.

Pull up a 5 year chart on Conifex.  

Lumber prices are far higher, and have sustained higher levels longer, than in 2018.  

Currently trading below book value with a management aggressively buying back shares.

It's true, but they have way fewer assets than they had two years ago and zero growth prospects.  They've sold off 4 mills and tenure.  I think fair value is more in the $4.50 range, $6+ is probably a stretch.  I still think a buyout is the best bet, but the power facility makes that a challenge in finding the right fit.

I don't care about growth, I care about growth per share. "normal course issuer bid, which commenced on December 1 and which resulted in us repurchasing roughly 590,000 shares in the month of December.  We remain confident that our return on shareholder investment is poised to increase as we move forward because we'll be moving to a greener log diet because we expect further ...more

They've been spouting this stuff for years.  I'm still optimistic, just cautiously optimistic. And you or I may not care about growth, but it deters other investors and funds from flowing into the company, which affects the share price.  The good news with current lumber prices is that essentailly all of the lumber segment debt will be retired and the only debt remaining is the ...more
