The other side of the pandemic

One by one the pandemic winners of 2020 are being crushed. Aside from Apple, most of tech is a hole in the ground. The latest pandemic winner, weed stocks, are seeing a slowdown in sales.

On the other hand, the pandemic losers are slowly coming back. Restos are up big... real big. Everyone locked down in their cities unable to board planes or cross the border ventured out of their caves into local dining establishments.

Now with the first holiday season upon us without restrictions in over 2 years, the itch to fly and hit a beach or visit family increases by the day. Covid remains, but we have adjusted. The other side of the pandemic is just beginning for hospitality. In a year from now many will look back and say they should have bought CHR in the $2 - 3's. It's not too late.

I don't think it is too late to buy Chorus. The company is back buying shares and I think till done share price is going anywhere. I also think that we just entered a bear market since lot a of money moved from stocks into bonds and GIC's and simply there is not enough liquidity to push stocks much higher. The ball less investors moved their money into GIS's.. If you look at the terms ...more

Map You are correct!  I just parked 1 million for 1 year at 5.5%!  I used 6 different accounts so most is insured.  That said,  I am not sure that intererest rates will come back to the record lows we have seen.  I suspect the 5-7% mortgage will become a norm.  So there will be alot of ugly for years to come in the housing sector.  These rates are not high but ...more

Map On a side note this may become the biggest housing collapse in Canadian History give all the nonsense that has gone on! 1.  Real Estate Agents caught cheating on their exams Attorney General Recent Reports 2.  The Condo Assignment Market is litterally nuts.  One in 5 Condo's in Canada is bought on consignment.  In the US and other markets it is maybe 1 in 20.  For ...more

If interest rate goes from 3 to 6% the payment does not double, the interest only portion doubles but that's going from an abnormal rate to a normal rate. Anyone betting their business on an abnormal rate needs better advice.

GIC's are raising eyebrows, but even at 5.5% you are not beating inflation, plus the income is fully taxed at 100% unlike capital gains and stock dividends. And, of course your 1 mil is illiquid. If the market recovers on the heels of declining inflation or a pause by the FED, which is very likely, you will miss the rebound. As for real estate, this Spring will not bring the hope that many ...more

TransTommy123 got time to chime in on CHR.     Why don't you tell us about your $10 price target on bankrupt Just Energy at $0.03 today?     You say you work for hedge fund as CIO.       So explain why your top pick JE has gone bankrupt.

This recession (yes, already here for many) is different than every other one. Jobs are available everywhere who wants one, people are working, many at higher wages. On the heels of being locked down like animals in a zoo for over 2 years, the price to travel freeeeely next year, despite inflation, will be paid up for in record numbers.

I would make the argument that you don't even need travel to be back at record levels or even pre-pandemic levels for CHR to keep rising.  The valuation is just too low and they produce significant cash right now.  As long as they just produce mediocre results (which they're not - just stating pessmistic scenario) - we're still looking at another 20% or so increase in ...more
