They can only hold back the beast for a bit, let them play with their own shares until the short panic sets in and reality hits in that their short position is going to zero.

Delta: if u sell at 57 cad u are throwing money away. This will pop minimum 60 usd. Be patient, we sure as hell suffered enough the last few months. This is our time now

Timing of the deal is highly uncertain (if any). I think a lot of people will start jumping who bought low 30's. Only certainty is when you execute the trade and have cash in your pocket. So I don't blame people for waiting to cash out a bit early.

This what the shorts are counting and much of the trading, as it was before, amongst themselves. Holding the price within manageable range and hoping for any deal to fall through. Not enough free shares to cover at this price and increasing short position is quite risky at this point IMO.
