This too shall pass

Remember covid? Seems like no is talking about it anymore. No masking, no more capacity restrictions. Thursday marks the 3rd anniversary of the covid market bottom. Coincidental that one of the most pivotal days of the year will be on the afternoon before the anniversary? If we selloff on fear again, it might be the buy opportunity of the year in the days ahead.

Like covid, remember that this too shall pass.

In my province, covid hospitalizations are rising again.  Pulling up a 10 year s&p500 chart it's such a tiny drop in 2020.

Ed, I'm not trying to diminish the effect covid is still having on folks (disclaimer: I've had all my shots and boosters). My point simply was that covid devastated markets and captured headlines for 2 years and yet we still got through it. And, we will get through this current banking crises also just like we did in 2008 and the next one when it hits too! It just seems that headlines ...more

All things pass but, DJ took almost 30 years to recover from the 1929 crash.
Comment by flamingogold on Mar 21, 2023 12:08pm
The 1929 crash was monumental and why the FED dropped their pants on rates in 2020 to ward off a 20's style market repeat as litterally global commerce came to a screeching halt. Unprecedented. On the other hand, the FED of the 20's-30's made crucial mistakes, lessons learned by modern day FED officials that prevented an economic depression a century later.   It's also ...more

Banks always seem to bounce back, but at times it can take months, not days, from financials getting stressed from bankruns and then the subsequent failures.  Janet Yellen speech today, said more measures may be necessary.  SO i wouldnt cheer real hard yet, that the worst is over. Lets see what happens when the FEDspeak happens tomorrow. I noticed they also made all depositors in SVB ...more

I spent months in total of real time building my record collection as a youth up to the time everything went digital. Today, I can download my entire collection in an hour or two. I had a lot of fun making the journey to the local record shop, taking it back home, unwrapping it and dropping the needle onto the vinyl. Those moments live on far longer than now where I can stream anything instantly ...more

Actually just gave the last of my vinyl to a nephew. Realized there were albums I'd bought 50 years ago. They are good memories - those purloined milk crates stacked with records - album notes - flipping the records every 15 - 20 minutes. Now thousands of songs stored on some list in the clould or on some devise the size of your thumbnail.

And there it goes, like all the rest of the 'crises' before. Profit on panic. https://www.cnbc.com/2023/03/28/stock-market-today-live-updates.html
