Tell us again how it wont happen :).  Mexico is now firmly on the way to a banana republic and nothing stands in the way of the open pit ban being formalized as well. Remember that an informal ban has been in place for a while already, no new open pit permit have been issued for many years.

We said you might be correct. But this is a sad day for Mexico. Furthermore, the incoming president Claudia promised near shoring. That will be difficult at best now. If Mexico continues to ostracize its Mining sector it will further send it's economy down. No one will want to explore or do business in Mexico. This judicial utopia that Mexicans speak of is just a repeat of exactly what Mexico ...more

The fact that it was shoved thru 10 days after the change in legislation speaks volumes. I mean why couldn't Claudia be in charge of it? It doesnt speak volumes. Claudia fully agrees with this reform and the party has coordinated this with her and she gave her blessing to do this during ALMOS term. It was a "present" to honor ALMO. Speaks volumes = Morena does NOT want to discuss it and come up with a logical / democratic discussion. They DO NOT represent all of Mexico. Claudia's inauguration speech was a lie. There were no discussions and they used subversive tactics on the last Senator. It speaks volumes. Mexico is now basically a lying 3rd world dictatorship without an independent rule of law by the judiciary. Give me ...more

I dont live there thankfully. Of course they were only interested in grabbing power, this doesnt fix anything, it makes the judiciary a lacky for the executive.  Its now well on its way towards a dictatorship, its uninvestable.

Agreed, as a similar example, witness what happened with BTG.  The Mali agreements were dragging on, investors hammered the stock over the last year as about half the market cap was eviscerated and then just today the agreement was signed and everything will be back to normal. $$ indeed talks.  The regional, local and national governments will not want to leave the $$ on the table.  ...more
