 Can someone explain to me the reason for buying stocks in lots of 500 throughout the day like Morgan Stanley has been doing for the past few days?

Somebody just trying to support the price. Morgan Stanley is just the broker the ID of the buyer is a mystery.

Quietly buying so as to not drive the price up a lot would be my guess.

I have also seen purchases of 500 shares at the end of day in Canada, as the last trade of the day and bringing share price down a penny or more a share. In the U.S. at E-tade the commission I pay to buy or sell shares of Spectral (EDTXF) is $4.95 per trade no matter the quantity.
